HEALTH & SAFETY / TRAINING

The main issues we see when auditing and working with garages, whether that is a commercial HGV/LGV/PSV garage or car dealership, are no LOLER testing or service on vehicle ramps and jacks, poor separation of flammables, unprotected inspection pits (yes they are still used), poor housekeeping and cables/pipes laying across the floor, no fire drills carried out, no fire extinguisher service contracts, no risk assessments or staff being unaware of the risk assessments.

Staff training is often inadequate on topics such as compressed air safety, high pressure fluid injection, skin hygiene and training records are often obsolete, which are your evidence should there ever be an accident.

Often staff are not even given basic, evidenced training on the use of the vehicle ramps, which has led to a number of fatal accidents in recent years.
